Tunworth cheeses are transported in Poplar boxes and these can be used to bake the cheese. However, this superb Hampshire cheese has transcended the comparison on all other fronts as its flavour and aroma are so memorable and delicious. Tunworth is most comparable to a Camembert de Normandie, and certainly in size, shape and packaging it is very similar. Its flavour profile is vegetal with almost truffly notes, sometimes with a hint of roasted nuts. The cheese is best when it has a strong aroma without a hint of ammonia it should give to the touch but not be squishy. Tunworth has a standout aroma, instantly recognisable by its mushroomy, sometimes cabbagey smell. The paste is dense and fatty, and oozes without running away on the board. ![]() Its rind is bloomy and thin with a very subtle bite. Tunworth is one of the best British soft cheeses in production and has won dozens of awards to prove it, twice winning Supreme Champion at the British Cheese Awards. ![]()
